Is a car rental necessary when visiting Eleuthera, Bahamas?
A rental car is highly recommended for your stay in Eleuthera, Bahamas. The island is over 100 miles long and has a ton to explore, from blue holes to beaches to caves, restaurants and more. There are so many stunning places to see in Eleuthera and if you’d like to check them out, a rental car is a must. Taxis are also not the most convenient option to travel around, only readily available at the airport. They also tend to be quite expensive, and often a rental car is a much more efficient and simple option.
Who can rent a car in Eleuthera, Bahamas?
You must be 25 years old to rent a car. You don’t need an international driver’s license for a typical visit. You must always drive on the left!
Where do I pick-up my rental car?
Johnson’s Car Rentals makes it super easy and convenient for you to pick-up your rental car in Eleuthera. We will meet you at your arrival point, most commonly North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) or Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB). It’s also common for people to visit Eleuthera for a day trip from Harbour Island or Spanish Wells, and we can arrange to meet you at the dock where your water taxi will arrive.
Do I need an SUV to explore the island of Eleuthera?
For most places on the island, a car will do just fine. However, if you plan to visit Lighthouse Beach you must disclose this to your rental company and a high clearance SUV is required. The roads in certain areas of the island can get a bit rough with potholes, and thus some people prefer to rent a SUV.
